Halal certificate is a written fatwa issued by MUI for products that have been declared halal after going through the registration process, audit and meeting of the MUI Fatwa Commission.

LPPOM MUI is Assessment Institution of Food, Drugs and Cosmetics Majelis Ulama Indonesia which is an independent institution under the MUI whose task is to carry out halal certification processes starting from registration, document collection, audit until making report before determinded of the halal status of materials by the Fatwa Commission.

Registration of halal products can be done at the LPPOM MUI Head Office or LPPOM MUI Province. The requirements of registration at LPPOM MUI Province among others are the company produce products in one area and marketed in certain regions (not national scale). To get MUI halal certificate takes time 75 calendar days since the complete registration at Cerol system. For companies located abroad approximately takes time 90 days apply for 1 type of product and 1 factory.

This is the following of the approximate time of the certification process (domestic) :

1. The process of completing upload until pre-audit : 20 days (including the akad approval process).
2. The process of completing pre-audit until audit : 15 days.
3. Audit process until fatwa commission meeting : 15 days.
4. The process of fatwa commission meeting until the issuance of halal certificates : 25 days.
5. Certification time total : 75 days.

The approximate length of the certification process above applies with term :

1. On pre-audit process there is no incongruity or there is a incongruity but improvements are made from the company within maximum 7 days after pre-audit is conducted.
2. Akad payment (click "paid" button on the "contract payment" menu) is done maximum 7 days after the Treasurer of LPPOM MUI uploaded akad at Cerol system.
3. On audit process there is no incongruity or there is incongruity but improvements are made from the company within maximum 7 days after audit
4. The company confirms audit date within maximum 5 days after the company is declared ready to be audit and execution of audit 10 days after confirmation date.
5. The number of production facilities that must be audited is only one or if more than one then is audited on the same day. Production facilities can include factories, headquarters, pre-production facilities, warehouses, outlets, and kitchens.

MUI halal certificate is valid for 2 years and must be re-certified (extension) approximately 3 months before the expiry date.

1. We inform that the regulation of the inclusion of the halal logo is the authority of BPOM RI (specifically food retail products). We only provide advice on the inclusion of the halal logo, where the halal logo that used is the official halal logo of MUI and includes the halal certificate number under the halal logo. Regarding color, we do not have specific provisions, as long as we do not eliminate or change the original form of the MUI halal logo.
2. To get permission of the inclusion of a halal logo can be submitted to BPOM RI by attaching a halal certificate for the product which will be included on it packaging.

No. Raw materials other than animal derivatives material (except marine animals), flavor, fragrance, seasoning and vitamin premix can be supplemented with other supporting documents such as specifications, process diagram flow, questionnaires, and other supporting documents that explain the origin of the material. Moreover, the raw materials that enter the List of Non-Critical Raw Materials do not need to attach supporting documents for the material. A list of Non-Critical Raw Materials can be found on the website www.halalmui.org.

Yes, halal certificate documents from abroad can be used but only those issued by halal institutions recognized by the MUI. Please check the receiving requirement of halal certificates as a supported of halal and the List of Halal Certification Institutions (LSH) that recognized by MUI at www.halalmui.org. If it does not listed in the list of halal institutions that recognized by the MUI, companies can submit approval for new materials by attaching supporting documents another materials (flowcharts process, specifications, etc.). However, other documents do not apply to derivatives raw materials / flavor / fragrance (these materials must include halal certificates).

For your information, LSH also has a validity period of recognition certificate from MUI which is renewed once every 2 years. Halal certificates issued by halal institutions whose certificates have been expired can still be used as supporting documents of material (both new and existing materials) as long as the halal certificate is still valid and materials are produced before the validity period of the halal certificate expires. However, if the halal certificate is issued after LSH expires, then SH document cannot be used unless validity period of LSH has been renewed by MUI.

The new raw material that will be used for products that have been certified halal must be registered for the request of approval used of new raw materials, for all material consultations is done through Cerol on the "Raw Material Approval Inquiry" menu. If materials is still not approved, then the company can submitted again the request at the same menu and will get a new permit letter number.

The new raw material that have been approved previously at the "Inquiry Material Approval" menu is not automatically entry into the list of material on the "Registered Material" menu, so the company needs to make a new list of raw materials and add it into Cerol when registration renewal of halal certificates.

Trial raw materials / that used on products that have not been registered with halal certification do not need to get LPPOM MUI approval including for production scale trials. The company just need to ensures that the materials are pork free (if using production facilities used for products that are halal certified). The new raw material can be registered at the same time when do registration of new products at registration for development and extension (if it will be certified halal).

The company can request a reference letter in process of halal certification. Reference Letter in Process-SKP (for new applications), Reference Letter Process of Extension-SKPP (for applications of extention) or Reference Letter of Halal-SKH (for products that have passed fatwa). For request a reference letter of process can be done through Cerol at the "Inquiry SK" menu.

Cause :

1. Products that are not listed encounter naming changes. 2. The changing of product can be done through Upload Halal Document menu then click Next until show up List of Product menu. Next, at the bottom left, there is a "List of Products" menu, click those menu and the table will show up at its bellow. At those table, there are action menu namely "Edit" and "Delete" at rightest column", click "Edit" button then click "Type" and choose the product type.
3. To acces "Delete" menu can be done same as like access "Edit" menu. Click "Delete" button to delete product.
4. Ways of add products can be done same as like add products when do registration.

1. Make sure the format matches with the template at Cerol Application.
2. Does not contain symbols that are not allowed at the Cerol application (at The Cerol Manual Guide has been described).
3. Make sure that the file has type file .csv extension.
4. Before being uploaded to Cerol Application, the csv file is opened first using Notepad Application, make sure for the format of separator symbol uses a comma (,) at Notepad Application, if appropriate then the file can be uploaded to the Cerol Application.

The company can monitor the halal certification process on the menu that ends with word "Monitoring" at The Cerol Application. If an audit has been conducted, to check the audit record at "Type of Process" selection column, choose "Audit", then click "Search".

1. Click "OK", after that you can do the activities that needed at the Cerol system.
2. The message explained that the company did not have a registration that was being processed in the Cerol system.
3. If you want to check the registration that has been done processed, then the company can check at the following menu :
   • Download Certificate : to view / download certificates that have been done processed.
   • Registered Material : to view the material that has been inputted, and to update data.
   • Regular Report : for periodic report.
   • Inquiry Material Approval : to add new raw material.
   • etc.

For the reference letter can be submitted at the Cerol system through "Inquiry SK" menu. Choose the category of letter based on company needs and also choose the language that will use at the letter. Then, choose the registration number related to the submission of the letter to be made.
